Securing Your Private Key
Essential guide on how to safely store and manage your private key.
1
Understand Private Key Importance
Your private key is the only way to access your card details. If you lose it, you lose access permanently. We cannot recover it for you.
- The private key is a 66-character hexadecimal string starting with "0x"
- It's used to decrypt your card data
- Only you have access to your private key - we don't store it
- Losing your private key means permanent loss of access to card details
2
Choose Secure Storage
Select a secure method to store your private key. Options include password managers, hardware wallets, or physical storage.
- Password Managers: Use reputable services like 1Password, LastPass, or Bitwarden
- Hardware Wallets: Store on a hardware wallet for maximum security
- Physical Storage: Write it down on paper and store in a safe or safety deposit box
- Never store it in plain text files on your computer
3
Create Backups
Create multiple backups of your private key in different secure locations. This protects against loss due to fire, theft, or other disasters.
- Create at least 2-3 backups in different locations
- Use different storage methods (digital + physical)
- Store backups in secure, fireproof locations
- Never store all backups in the same place
4
Test Your Backup
Verify that you can access your card using your backup. This ensures your backup is correct and accessible.
- Wait a few days after creating your backup
- Try accessing your card using only the backup
- If it works, your backup is correct
- If it doesn't work, create a new backup immediately
💡 Pro Tips
- Never share your private key with anyone, including support staff
- Don't take screenshots of your private key
- Don't store it in cloud services without encryption
- Consider using a hardware wallet for maximum security
- Review your backup strategy regularly
